She was born in 1899 in Whiting, Iowa. She was helping her cousin on a ranch in South Dakota when she met Guy T. Barnes, working as a herdsman. They married and moved to Eagle, Colorado, where Mr. Barnes was employed by Andrew Christiansen.

Kluge was a partner with Thomas E. Lewis in the Lewis & Kluge mercantile at Eagle. Together with Mr. Lewis and Robert McHatton, Kluge also owned the Gypsum Mercantile Co. store at Gypsum. Lewis bought out Kluge's interest in the Eagle store.

Charley McCoy (Charles B., son of Charles H. McCoy) married Stella Hatch in 1900. Daughter Ethel was born in 1902 and daughter Mildred was born in 1913.
