In the early 1920s, members of the indigenous Osage nation in Oklahoma became the richest people in the world. After discovering huge oil deposits under their reserve, the Osage lived in mansions, dressed in expensive skins and jewelry, traveled in cars with drivers and had white servants. But soon, the Osage began to mysteriously disappear or to be killed, one after another. The family of an Osage woman, Mollie Burkhart, became a main objective. Her three sisters were killed. One was poisoned, another shot dead and the third died in an explosion. Other members of the Osage nation died in mysterious circumstances, and many of those who dared to investigate the crimes were also killed. As the number of deaths increased, the newly created FBI took over the case, and its young director, J. Edgar Hoover, turned to a member of the Texas Rangers named Tom White to try to decipher the mystery. White put together a clandestine team, which included a Native American agent who infiltrated the region, and along with the Osage, began to reveal one of the most chilling conspiracies in the history of the United States.
